Steven,
When your email started by stating "We will work together on this issue throughout the course of this case", I was very happy, as it sounded as if my problem was being taken seriously, and MS Support would work to a resolution. So when it ended with saying (as I understand it) that the case is closed, and there will be no attempt to fix the problem, that took me by surprise. I'm not sure what may have transpired between the beginning and end of your email response.
I'm also not quite sure how to interpret what a "by-design imperfect feature" is. Does this mean that when this change was made, MS made the deliberate decision to program it in such a way that it did not work properly? I realize that software often has bugs which causes it to behave in undesirable ways, but I've never heard of companies purposely designing their software to operate in a less than perfect manner. I would loved to have been a fly on the wall in that design meeting.
I am very disappointed that there will apparently be no attempt to address my issue, especially in light of the earlier email I received from MS Support, which lead me to believe that Microsoft gave priority to issues created by applying Office Updates (as was the case here), and that they had a separate team for handling just such issues. Apparently that does not translate into actually correcting the problems.
There are several IT forums where others, including myself, had posted messages attempting to understand this issue. I will be sure to pass along the information you have provided here, as well as to my corporate IT department.
Regards,
-George
